Duke Power's new name: FEMA
Dec. 18th, 2005 03:30 amDuke Power is the local electric company. When I say local, I mean about 10-15 counties in SC/NC. We had a minor ice storm Wednesday night. Or it WOULD'VE been minor if the power didn't go out.
For 3 days.
Our power cut out sometime before 9 am (which is what my alarm that did not go off was set for). It was not on until 2:30 pm today, which was better than the estimate we got, which was the 20th.
The REASON the power went out is Duke Power monitors tree growth on power lines on a 4 year cycle. Meaning if a tree is hovering dangerously over a power line, and it was last checked two years ago, it'll be one of the first to take out the power lines, and they just go "oops." And residential power is their last priority.
Blech.
So now we have very little food since most of it spoiled in the fridge. And I was not in a good mood for the three days I had no power in freezing temperatures.
