From my hometown paper:
The idea of someone disrespecting others at gatherings where the Pledge of Allegiance is recited makes Dee Dee ********'s blood boil, and she says just such a situation occurred at the Broome High School graduation ceremony. "As everyone stood, one person remained seated. Her friends tried to get her to her feet, but she refused. Even they seemed embarrassed by her behavior," Mrs. ******** says. "I wanted to yank her up by the hair of her head, but I didn't want to be escorted out. If I ever run into her again, however, I'll be tempted to tell her about some of the Third World countries I've been to, where the freedom we are accustomed to is prohibited. Learn the Pledge of Allegiance and show some respect by standing and reciting it. Those who don't stand should be escorted out -- out of this country.
I'm neither supporting nor defending what the girl did, but let me get what this woman is saying straight...
Mrs. Dee Dee's been to countries where this girl could've been stoned/publicly beheaded/etc. for her actions and realizes that because we live in the United States---a free country---nothing like that will happen. But because we live in a free country and people really DON'T have to stand during or say the Pledge of Allegiance if they don't want to, Mrs. Dee Dee thinks all the people who make that choice should be escorted out of our FREE country to a place where they don't have that right.
Did I get that right?
