When I start something I sure do start it

First thoughts on goverment: Working on the premise a new galactic goverment would be democratically based, would the Galactic Senate (having been dissolved in A New Hope) be reestablished? Or would the framers of the new government say, "Well, THAT didn't work -- let's try X." If not a senate, then what? Would the galaxy entrust a singular person with even limited head of state power, or would a board of equals with veto power be preferred?

Regarding Leia herself, where should she fall in the power structure? Would she desire to serve at the highest levels? Has she lost her taste for politics in the post-war era and is content to serve in a larger, less powerful governing body? Where does Han and any family they have/are planning fit into this?

My head hurts.

One thought I have is that it reminds me a little bit of the American Revolution. The colonists were all set to crown Washington as the King of America, and would have if he hadn't said it was a terrible idea. So it's possible that the idea of a supreme leader who is GOOD would be appealing, and could be interesting if that person didn't please everyone enormously.
